The wait is almost over! Spring is in the air and we're ready for it. Little interactive animation using Web MIDI API, javascript, css and html. Recorded the screen this time and made the sounds with Garage Band. Cut together in DaVinci Resolve.

Piano Light Mapping: new installation
Просмотров 314 месяца назад
Using web programming languages I output the piano keys to realtime visuals, which I project back on the scene. This is my first test upload of the new space, I'll tweak the animations and sounds to greater heights in the video's to come so stay tuned for updates.
piano color projection mapping

Every key is mapped to a beam of light, projected back at me using an Optoma HD beamer. The harder I press a key, the bigger the ray of light becomes. Enjoy, and more experiments in the making. Technologies: - Javascript - Web MIDI Api - Canvas
Digital shadow play which you can set up with any webcam and projector!

What happens if you film your shadow on the wall you're projecting on, and project it back realtime? Spoiler alert... cool shizzl, that's what!

I showed this movie to one of my best friends, with whom I shared a passion for interesting, out of the ordinary movies. He fell absololutely in love with this scene, mainly because of this rendition of Lacrimosa. He died at 35 and without me knowing, they played this his at his funeral according to his wishes. Goes without saying I cried like a bitch. Fuck I miss that guy sometimes. There is no one else in my life left that I share that same passion and openness to new movies, new music, new art. We didn't always agree, but we were always open, and it enlightened each others lives.

This movie made me feel insignificant yet magnificent. We are ephemeral yet eternal. We are mortals yet deities. We are nothing, yet we are the ALL. We are millions, yet we are ONE.

What if the great minds of Aristotle or Socrates had the tools to craft a cinematic masterpiece reflecting their profound views on life? Especially after experiencing the death of their brother in their youth. That is the story The Tree of Life in a nutshell. The director and writer, Terrence Malick, isn't just a regular filmmaker. He's a genius contemporary philosopher in his own right, after teaching philosophy at MIT, following a PhD in philosophy at Oxford. Aw yes, he also graduated Harvard with Summa cum laude. Malick had two younger brothers: Chris and Larry. Larry Malick was a guitarist who went to study in Spain. To understand the character traits that run in the Malick family, imagine that Larry, Terrence's bother, intentionally broke his own hand due to pressure over his musical studies. Not far from this he died, possibly by suicide. Terrence had the unfortune to experience this first hand. Yet, in a absolutely amazing twist of fate, someone gave Terrence a big white check to bring this deeply personal experience onto the silver screen, decades after. The movie flopped badly for the wide audience, but I don't think that was ever the point of the movie. I recently heard from a friend at the Vienna State Opera that they occasionally receive unique requests to create musical composition which must capture a specific emotion. These compositions are exclusively for the requester, never to be shared, and all the records must be destroyed from their side. Think about it: In a world where money is not of importance, owning a piece of art or music that profoundly resonates with your soul is the ultimate luxury. It's not about flaunting wealth; it's about connecting with something deeply, deeply personal. Your own acquirable nirvana. In my opinion, "The Tree of Life" is that rare gem - an audiovisual symphony crafted from the depths of Malick's soul, for a person which we can only deeply thank for sharing it with us, the mortals.

God asks Great Dark Mother: - "Who are we to you?". This whole sequence is Mother's answer: - "You are everything: - time; space; the stars; creation; love; life; death". Stunning.

it's so fitting that malick chose to use this piece of music from preisner, a long-time collaborator with kieslowski, a polish director that also made films with existential/spiritual/religious themes. it's like a nod to a master and his oeuvre.

This is one of those movies that you don’t really understand until you’ve had that moment in your life where everything comes into focus as confusing and trance like. Sorta like how when you say a word over and over and it gets weird. Its the feeling when you think about existence too much.

I always feel like this is a cry to search for those who left us. In this infinite universe, there has to be a tiny spec where they still exist somewhere in some form with all those memories they created. Just like the lost son in the film. Otherwise what exactly is the point of all that matter floating around across galaxies.
